How Long Does It Take to Rank in Google. It’s the one question every website owner wants an answer for. Unfortunately, there is no set period for a page to appear on the first page of Google search results. This is mainly because there are simply too many factors to answer this question directly.

It’s a question that can have many different answers depending on who you ask. The good news is that one study conducted Ahrefs may be able to bring us a little closer to getting a more definite answer.

The team at Ahrefs kicked off their study by investigating the average age of top-ranking pages. After they took 2 million random keywords and pulled data on the top 10 ranking pages for each of them, it turned out that the average Top 10 ranking page is 2+ years old, while an average #1 page is nearly 3 years old.

To put things into perspective, only 22% of pages that currently rank in the Top 10 were created within 1 year. In fact, when the Ahrefs study zoomed in on the percentage of pages at each ranking position that was younger than 1 year, they discovered that the SERP is clearly dominated by “old” pages.

To help answer the most important question of all – How long does it take for a page to rank in Google? – Ahrefs randomly selected 2 million pages that were first seen by their crawler a year ago and tracked the position history of each page for any keyword it’s ranked for.

This way, they were able to determine the percentage of pages in the Top 10 search results that were created within 1 year for at least 1 keyword. The team was also able to draw some important conclusions about the differences between websites with high Domain Rating (DR) and those with a low DR.
