Techniques To Encourage Team Creativity
Techniques To Encourage Team Creativity. Members of Forbes Coaches Council share their techniques on encouraging creativity
Creativity is the basic building block for a company’s success. Businesses that innovate can successfully stay ahead of their competition and keep their finger on the pulse of the market. For a business to be creative, however, it must have innovative workers. The challenge for any organization is to maintain that level of creativity over time within their production teams, as even the most innovative workers can burn out or run out of ideas without the right incentives.
So how can managers ensure that their employees stay engaged and curious in their work at all times? Here, 12 members of Forbes Coaches Council take a look at some of the most effective methods managers can use to help team members maintain their creative spark.
1. Identify The Top Three Priorities
By creating a working environment and culture of innovation, we can keep our talent engaged and curious. To do this effectively, we should be asking a lot of questions and allow participants to identify the top three priorities or problems they wish to solve with defined specific parameters. By knowing the “way,” the how, when and who gets solved in the process organically. Game on, champions! – Izabela Lundberg, Legacy Leaders Institute
2. Reward Questions
We often wait for someone to make a statement to offer praise on an insightful comment or perspective. This will encourage opinions and statements. If we want to encourage curiosity, reward questions. Questions are the cues for curiosity and innovation. Leaders must reward questions as much as they reward great insights. Curiosity is the key that sparks new ideas, creative freedom and innovation. – Jim Vaselopulos, Rafti Advisors, LLC
3. Give Them Time And Trust
Innovation takes two key ingredients: time and trust. People need time to think. Ask your team to block out an hour of thinking time each week — this simple first step gets creativity on the calendar. Cultivating trust on your team pays dividends in productivity and creativity. People who trust each other share their out-of-the-box ideas. Innovation is a gift born of trust. – Jennifer Owen-O’Quill, Voltage Leadership Consulting
